JAMES P. HILL

Some of you no doubt saw the Bugler Request that came through a few days ago for Corporal James Hill. I managed (after several attempts) to talk to the contact person listed on the request. Notice the contact is James P. Hill. So is the Deceased's Name. Same Marine.

No, he's not requesting anything from beyond his grave (although Marines are a pretty tough lot, so I wouldn't put it past them) he is a Korean War vet getting his "house in order," as they say. He doesn't want to have his family worry about getting him the proper service, so he's arranging it himself. He's trying to make things easier on his family. I find that an amazing statement from an amazing man.

James P. Hill was seriously shot and wounded in Korea. He lost all use of his limbs and is a now a paraplegic. When he was in recovery from his wounds, he was told that he had less than five years to live. That was in 1953.

This man is a fighter. Everything he's gotten in the last 50 years he has had to fight for. Nothing has been easy for him, or for his family. Rather than accept the doctor's diagnosis in 1953, he went on to live his life (and a pretty good one, from what I can tell - the lady that answered the phone the first time I called put her hand over the receiver and called out, "Jimmy, Jimmy, do you want to come in and take this?") He's made his peace with God and is making his final plans. After all he's been through, after the life that he's lived and the sacrificed he's made, he's preparing his own funeral. To make it easier on his family. God bless Jimmy Hill.

Funeral this Friday

A request just came through from the main site. The contact information is incomplete, but the service is for David Lucero and is this Friday morning at 10:00am. I'm not available - who can cover this?

Remember - don't call the family first! Let me know so that we make only one phone call to the family!

UPDATE: Someone has called the family and arranged to play, but
I have no information on the bugler.
